Activity
Malaria Program in Eastern Indonesia
In 2005, USAID began a three year program to address malaria in pregnancy problems in Eastern Indonesia and assist with improving health services systems and behaviors that contribute to a reduction of malaria in pregnancy in selected districts in Papua, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Maluku Utara and Maluki. The MPEI program focuses on preventing and appropriately treating malaria in pregnant women including strengthening diagnosis and vector control through use of Insecticides Treated Bednets (ITN) by pregnant women.
The MPEI program has four components:
- Support to policy, planning, and problem-solving;
- Health systems' development and quality control;
- Health services delivery; and,
- Social mobilization to stimulate consistent and proper ITN use by pregnant women.
The USAID supported MPEI program is managed by UNICEF/Indonesia with technical assistance from CDC/Atlanta.
