USAID program sends 24 talented Indonesians to study for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in the U.S.

JAKARTA, August 12 – Twenty-four talented young Indonesian professionals departed today for the United States today to study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Education, Environment, Economics, Management, Health, Public Policy and Regional Planning. They will study at various U.S. universities courtesy of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Human and Institutional Capacity Development Project (HICD).
Of the 24 participants selected this year, 11 are female and 13 male. The individuals come from various provinces, including Lampung and Papua. They have varying backgrounds and fields of expertise, and work at both the national and local government level (14 participants). They also come from state universities (4 participants), private universities (3 participants) and non government organizations (3 participants).
The HICD program is fully funded by USAID at $16 million over four years (2007-2011). In addition to short term training completed in the first two years, the project will provide opportunities for 110 students to study for Master’s degrees and a limited number for Doctoral and Bachelor degrees. Besides U.S. universities study destination, the HICD also offers scholarship program to young Indonesians to study Master’s and doctoral degrees in Indonesia and other third country universities.
