USAID/Indonesia and INTEL team up to make teachers tech-savvy

On April 27, USAID/Indonesia and Intel signed an agreement to establish a $1.5 million, three year, public-private alliance to train teachers on the use of computer technology as a teaching and learning tool in the classroom. The partnership is part of USAID's efforts to enhance teaching and learning in primary schools and specifically supports our mandate to use ICT to strengthen learning outcomes in math and science.  In year one, USAID and Intel will train 120 teachers from 60 schools in six provinces where President Bush’s Indonesia Education Initiative is on-going.  Those trained teachers will in turn train 500 to 600 other teachers at their respective schools. A significant rollout will take place in years two and three. This new alliance will support Intel's global "Intel Teach" Program, which since 1999 has trained 4 million K-12 teachers in 40 countries on incorporating technology tools, and supports USAID/Washington's overall Agency agreement to work with Intel on education improvement around the world.
