The HSP provides technical assistance to support the Department of Health to ensure that Indonsia can achieve its millennium Development Goals (MDG) for health. The HSP partners with the Department of Health to decrease the morbidity and mortality of mothers, newborns and children, with a focus on the most vulnerable families. The main goals of the HSP are: • Promote positive health practices that improve maternal, newborn and child health. • Improve access to quality health services in both the public and private sectors. • Improve the capacity of health planning and management at the district level. • Improve the management and integration of health services at all levels. The HSP strives to strengthen the access, availability and use of quality maternal, newborn and child health services. The HSP assists Provincial and District Health Offices to expand their integrated service package with a focus on interventions proven to reduce mortality. The HSP also provides assistance to local government to strengthen their health system planning and management. The HSP team is available to provide technical assistance on evidence-based interventions in the areas of skilled birth attendance, care of the newborn, immunization, acute respiratory infection, diarrhea, nutrition and family planning. The HSP has the capacity to provide quality assistance to central and local government, NGOs, community based organizations, the private commercial sector, and to other donors in the areas of: improving the quality of health services; integrated health planning and budgeting; advocacy; community participation; and behavior change interventions. This program also offers support to ensure that 2006 health budgets are used to revitalize the health system to make lasting, positive improvements in the health of women, newborns and children.
