The earthquake caused significant damage to homes and other infrastructure

Based on preliminary observations, the USAID team reports extensive damage in Bantul and Klaten districts. Many affected families are taking shelter near their damaged homes or temporarily residing elsewhere.

The airport in Yogyakarta re-opened on May 30, and many businesses in Yogyakarta city have resumed operations. Community efforts to clear debris in the affected areas are underway. In Bantul and Klaten districts, electricity and piped water supplies have not yet been restored.
